Boarding Your Pet
August 1, 2021

Are you going out of town soon? As things open back up, many people are delighted to be able to travel again. Of course, for people with pets, this raises another question: that of what to do with Fido and Fluffy. While petsitting services are on the rise, if you’re going to be gone overnight, we recommend boarding. A Kerrville, TX vet offers some tips on this below.

Pack Well

One thing you’ll want to check on is what you should pack for your pet. Some places encourage you to bring toys, food, treats, and bedding. Others prefer to use their own supplies. If you’re bringing food or medicine, bring a few days’ extra, just in case you’re delayed.

Choose A Great Spot

Picking the right place is more than half the battle. You can’t trust your beloved pet to just anyone! Read reviews, ask people you know for recommendations, and check with your vet. Of course, if your vet offers boarding, as we do, that’s a huge advantage. They’ll already know your furry best buddy, and any specific medical concerns he has.

Give Pertinent Information

It’s best to give any specific instructions both verbally and in writing. Be clear and concise. If you don’t have great handwriting, print the information out instead. The kennel may find the story about Fido’s ongoing battle with the squirrel in the yard endearing, but it’s more important for them to know he’s allergic to corn.

Read Paperwork

Most kennels will give you some paperwork, whether it’s a simple form or a packet of information. Read this over carefully. There may be spots where you need to indicate preferences for things. You’ll also want to make sure you know what the kennel’s emergency procedures and protocols are, just in case something happens. Also, find out about the kennel’s hours for drop-offs and pickups. You don’t want to find out at the last minute that they’re closed when you’re headed to the airport!

Enjoy Your Trip

One of the best things about boarding? You’ll be able to rest easy, knowing that your beloved pet is safe and sound, and being well taken care of. Focus on your trip, and look forward to all the cuddles and affection you’ll get when you return.
