Texas’ National Dog Day Events
August 15, 2023

August 26th has gone to the dogs: it’s National Dog Day! Man’s Best Friend has left his pawprints all over our beautiful state, so it’s only fitting to celebrate Texas style. Read on as a local Kerrville, TX vet lists some of the pup-tastic events taking place on Fido’s big day.

Kerrville

Looking to sweat for a good cause? You can’t do better than the Cause for Paws 5K Run/Walk. That is taking place Monday the 18th, at the Comfort Community Park, 415 TX-27. Proceeds will benefit the Kendall County Animal Shelter and Hay Dude Critter Rescue. If you want something less strenuous, Fido may also appreciate a trip to a dog park. Kerrville-Schreiner Park and Louise Hays City Park are both very popular with our canine patients.

Austin

Headed to Austin over the next few weeks? If you’re bringing Fido with you, you may want to add a few things to your calendar. On the 26th, there’s a National Dog Day Celebration, which will take place from noon to 6 p.m. at Scholz Garten. Some things on the agenda include dog yoga, a treat-making workshop, a pup photo booth, and a doggy fashion show. Or, check out the Dog Days Of Summer Celebration at Zilker Park. Both events will feature food, vendors, and, of course, adorable pooches.

San Antonio

If you’re going to be in San Antonio, and you love cars, check out the Cause For Paws car show. This charity event will take place from 9 a.m. to noon at Gateway Classic Cars. Or, if your pooch is a Boston Terrier, head to the monthly Bark In The Park from 9 to 10 a.m. at Phil Hardberger Park West, 8400 N.W. Military Highway, San Antonio. Or, take Fido to a local doggy cafe.

Various

Paint nights have become quite popular over the last few years. There are various ‘Paint Your Pup’ and ‘Paint Your Pet’ events taking place all over the Lone Star State! What better way to celebrate your furry best friend than by painting him?

Tips

Doggy events can be fun, but only if Fido behaves and enjoys them. You should only take your pooch if he’s calm, friendly, and current on vaccines and preventative care.
