Here at Compassionate Care Veterinary Hospital, we like to recognize not just the major holidays, but also those special days that are dedicated to our furry friends. There’s a pretty fun one around the corner. March 3rd is If Pets Had Thumbs Day! We all know that our animal companions have some pretty adorable (and effective) ways of getting us to do things for them. But what if they suddenly grew opposable thumbs? Here, a Fredericksburg, TX veterinarian makes some petucated guesses on what Fluffy and Fido would do if they suddenly grew thumbs.
Food would probably be the first thing on your furry friend’s agenda. Fido would help himself to anything and everything in your fridge and cupboard. As for Fluffy, she’s a bit fussier. However, it wouldn’t be entirely out of character for a cat to peel the labels off your canned goods, taste test everything in the fridge, or open your food containers just to put fur on everything. We also wouldn’t put it past our feline pals to break all your dishes, just for the fun of it.
You’d likely have a hard time getting your four-legged buddy to stay put if they were able to let themselves in and out at will. Actually, Fido would probably borrow the car and head off on some doggy adventures. Fluffy, on the other paw, would probably lock him out and then raid your cupboards.
Shopping online would of course also require pets learning how to use computers, but given that this is already a pretty silly idea, we’re leaving it on the table. Fluffy and Fido probably wouldn’t hesitate to start ordering themselves things from Amazon or other retailers. Your canine pal would probably be interested in bacon, toys, and steak clubs. As for kitties? In addition to dozens of beds, huge batches of treats and catnip, and kitty furniture, Fluffy would probably also order herself some live fish, laser pointers, and something completely random, like a paint-by-numbers kit or some romance novels.
This one’s a no-brainer. Fido and Fluffy would happily experiment with forks, scratchers, rulers, and anything else that caught their fancy!
